Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend Continuing Education classes?
SSCC Continuing Education classes are open to everyone. Students under 18 will be permitted only with prior consent of the parent, instructor and staff.

What are my options for noncredit online classes ?
Continuing Education offers two types of online classes .

Education to Go has over 200 choices of classes. A new section of each class starts monthly (usually the second Wednesday of each month.) Classes run for 6 weeks, with a two-week grace period at the end. Each class consists of 12 lessons or 24 hours of instruction. Registration and payment are due by the class start date, then students will be given instructions on how to set-up their online password for the class.

Gatlin Education offers short-term trainings and certificate preparation, available for immediate registration start whenever you want. All books and materials are included in the price and will be sent to you upon registration. Financing available through Gatlin Education. At the Gatlin website is a course outline and demo.

Not sure which online class is right for you? The Continuing Education staff will be happy to assist you and share the insight learned from students who have taken these classes. Call 206-764-5339 or e-mail kkent@sccd.ctc.edu

Will I receive a receipt in the mail?
After we receive your payment, you will receive your confirmation letter via e-mail. If you do not have an email address, your confirmation will be mailed to you. We encourage you to register online to receive the most efficient response. When not registering online, expect to receive your confirmation letter by mail before the first class meeting. It is your responsibility to let us know prior to your first class if you did not receive your confirmation.

To whom do I pay the material fee?
Your class description indicates if the class has a material fee and how it is to be paid. Some material fees are paid at the time of registration and most are paid directly to the instructor at the first of class. If you have any questions, please contact the Continuing Education staff at 206-764-5339.

What do I need to bring to class?
If your class has any special requirements (apron, drawing paper, bag lunch, etc.) it will be listed under "Things to Bring" to class. Read this part carefully on your confirmation. The "Important Notes" section will tell you if there is anything irregular about the class schedule (holidays, skipped days, class field trips, etc.).

Can I register on the first day of class?
You may register if there is space available and the instructor has enough materials for you. (For art and food classes, please register at least 72 hours prior to guarantee supplies.) We encourage you to register early as classes may fill up prior to the class date. Classes with low enrollment may be canceled prior to the first day of class so early registration is encouraged.

Why do classes get canceled?
If a class does not meet minimum enrollment, it will be canceled 48 hours prior to the start date. If you are interested in a class, please call to register at least three days in advance. Register your friends to take the class with you! Unfortunately, people often call at the last minute after a class has been canceled and everyone is disappointed. Instructors need to prepare and often purchase materials for their classes and we need to give them at least 2 days lead time.

If your class is canceled, Continuing Education staff will contact you by e-mail and phone. Please make sure we have all your current contact information. You will receive a 100% refund or given the option to transfer your registration to another class for any classes we cancel. Depending on the form of payment (check/charge), you can expect to receive your refund within two to four weeks.

What if I can't attend a class for which I am registered?
Please contact the Continuing Education office as soon as possible. If you cancel within 2 business days before the first class meets, we will refund all but a $5.28 processing fee.* If you choose to transfer the $5.28 processing fee will be waived. Class and material fees can not be refunded after the first session of a course has started.

*(Exceptions:  CFP Live Review you must cancel 2 weeks in advance and we will refund all but $250.)

What about parking?
Parking permits are required if you choose to park on campus during weekdays, weekends and evenings.

Daily parking passes ($2) are sold at ticket machines in the North, South and Visitor parking lots, (dollar bills only). If you wish to pre-purchase passes or need change, please come to the Continuing Education office (CED) in Olympic Hall before 6:00 p.m. For convenience, you may want to buy a quarterly pass (available at the Cashier's office or CED office). Quarterly Parking Passes are $21.25.   A pass provides you with unlimited parking throughout the quarter.  With a pass, you may park in either the North or South parking lots. Please feel free to call CED with questions Monday -Thursday from 8:30-6:00; or Friday from 8:30-4:30.
